Big Black Birds

Day 11:  10/1/10 - 90 songs
First song 8:13AM:  "Beyond the End" by Jimmy Buffett from Last Mango in Paris
Last song 5:01PM:  "Black Pearl" by Sonny Charles And The Checkmates from Phil Spector: Back To Mono

Highlights:
  • Two versions of "The Bitch is Back"
    • Elton John from Greatest Hits
    • Tina Turner from Two Rooms - Celebrating the Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin
  • Three completely different songs all titled "Black and Blue"
    • Counting Crows from Hard Candy
    • Ethel Waters from Pop Music: The Early Years 1890-1950
    • Van Halen from Best of Both Worlds
  • 27 "Big" songs (and three additional that we "bigger" or "biggest")
  • 27 "Black" songs...  and counting
Notes:
Some really great songs today.  Some of my favorites being "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin, "Big Rock Candy Mountain" by Harry McClintock, "Bitch" by the Rolling Stones, and even though it's technically not a song, "Bill Visits Ray Charles" by Bill Cosby.  "Ray, why are you shaving in the dark with the lights off???"
Also, I had a pretty great run in the "black" songs that I'd actually go back and listen to again:
  • "Black Cat Bone" by Johnny Winter from Progressive Blues Experiment
  • "Black Country Woman" by Led Zeppelin from Physical Graffiti
  • "Black Cowboys" by Bruce Springsteen from Devils & Dust
  • "Black Crow Blues" by Bob Dylan from Another Side of Bob Dylan
  • "Black Crows" by Honeyhoney from First Rodeo
  • "Black Diamond Bay" by Bob Dylan from Desire
  • "Black Dog" by Led Zeppelin from Led Zeppelin IV (ZOSO)
  • "Black Friday" by Steely Day from Greatest Hits
And if you don't know who Honeyhoney is, check out First Rodeo.  You'll thank me.
